Tax free in Turkey – how to save money by shopping

Turkey is a shoppers paradise – from antique shops, small street shops and bazaars to fashionable boutiques with international brands and reasonable prices. Everybody knows that it is impossible to come from Turkey without buying some leather, textile, jewelry and many more!
But not everyone knows, that you can claim a tax refund. We are speaking about VAT rate refund - textiles and clothes, leather goods, carpets, bags, shoes has 8% VAT. Optics, watches, jewelry and homeware – 18%. Accessories, electronics, watches, sunglasses, cosmetics, porcelain/ceramics and homeware: 18%
Receipt or Tax Free form?
Tax Free refund in Turkey is a little bit different than in your own country, so look for stores displaying Global Blue and Tax Free Shopping signage in the window. When paying for your purchases ask the shop staff for a Tax Free Form. On the bazaars, small street shops or souvenir shops in Turkey you will not get even a normal receipt, so be careful!
But it is also not enough to have a receipt from shop. Simply spend over 108 TL + VAT to save on purchases – never has shopping in Turkey been so exciting! After paying for your purchases ask the shop staff for a Tax Free Form. Fill in all the required fields in block letters, using the Latin alphabet. Ask for help from shops staff if needed!
Before you check in for your flight, go to the Customs desk and present your completed Tax Free Form, passport and purchases to get a stamp on your form. After, to Refund office displaying the Global Blue logo. Present your stamped and completed Tax Free Forms to receive the refund in cash or to credit card.
If you are in a hurry or do not want to wait for Tax refund in the airport- mail your stamped and completed Tax Free and get refund on your credit card. Do not forget that you can only get refund during 3 months since purchasing date.
