Alanya Megaprojects: What's Here and What's Coming

Alanya, a city in southern Turkey on the Mediterranean coast, is becoming increasingly well-maintained and comfortable for its residents with each passing year. 

The city's mayor, Adem Murat Yücel, has initiated and overseen numerous projects that are significantly transforming the town. Alanya is evolving from a typical resort town into a city with advanced infrastructure and modern high-tech services for its residents while still maintaining the unique atmosphere reminiscent of the Mediterranean empires that this ancient land recalls. 

Currently, several mega-projects are underway in the city with a history dating back over 800 years.

Project #1: Neighborhood Parks

This project has been ongoing for two years and, according to local authorities, will continue until every resident has a nearby park, square, or recreational area within walking distance. The city is currently constructing these leisure spaces for both children and adults, with a variety of options from impressive facilities with sports areas and attractions (where the terrain allows) to smaller yet cozy and functional spaces. New leisure spots in Alanya are being opened almost every week.

Project #2: Childhood

Alanya's population is growing rapidly due to new families forming and people moving to the city. Many of these newcomers are young families with small children. Consequently, the need for more kindergartens is paramount. These new facilities are being built across the city. For example, a recently completed kindergarten in the Oba district has been accommodating children. Construction is nearing 80% completion for a 220-seat kindergarten in the Mahmutlar district, the city's largest and most multicultural area. This unique institution will feature a gallery with a glass roof and multiple rooms for sports and various creative activities. The fantastic kindergarten, unparalleled in Alanya, is expected to open by year-end.

Project #3: Culture

Another project in the Mahmutlar district is the construction of a Cultural Center, which is currently 60% complete. The center will feature a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 1,200, a 550-seat theater, a wedding hall, a library, a gym, a mosque, offices, and various other spaces. It also includes open areas for various events. This Cultural Center will become Mahmutlar's primary venue for a wide range of activities. The project is set to be completed by the end of the year, and the new cultural space will open in early 2024.

Project #4: Municipal Office

The Alanya Municipality is building a new city hall in the Oba district. The new building will be significantly larger to accommodate the city's growth, including the increasing number of municipal officials. With the new city hall, the administrative and business life of the city will be centered in Oba. For those who want to live in the heart of the city's main events, buying property in Oba is highly recommended.

Project #5: Gastronomy

Turkey is renowned for its delicious cuisine, and Alanya is no exception. The city is currently constructing a Gastronomic and Culinary Center, located in the Oba district. The primary goal of this center is to promote and develop the city's culinary culture. This building will be able to accommodate 5,000 people simultaneously, featuring a bakery, cafeterias, numerous rooms for preparing various national dishes, shops where you can buy local products, and more. Not only will this new center serve the tastiest and most unique dishes, but it will also host workshops, cooking courses, festivals, and other events. The project is almost complete, and the grand opening is planned for the beginning of winter 2023.

Project #6: Sports

Another mega-project in the Oba district is a sports complex. It will include a semi-Olympic swimming pool and modern facilities for 18 different sports, a gym, and more. It's already being said that this project will become the best sports complex in the Mediterranean region. Completion is expected by the end of 2023.
